Finn Yago was not weak, had not been weak in over two years. He had killed more monsters than he could remember since he made the Pact. The Pact was supposed to ensure that Finn would never be weak again.
But a stranger, one of his own kind, had stood up to him. For a pair of lowly blood suckers. And worse yet, he had lost. Oh yes, he had lost terribly. From the moment he had met those eyes he knew there was only one way it would end.
Those eyes were burned into the shadows surrounding him, no matter which way he looked they were ever watching him. He could see bloodlust, anger, and power in those eyes. Red was the color of many things, after all. Everything he had ever wanted was in those eyes.
"You're not a demon, you never will be." The words echoed hauntingly as Finn collapsed to his knees. Despite everything he had done, he knew there was truth in the words.
"You're just a pitiful excuse for a human." Laughter erupted from everywhere. Haunting, hateful laughter that would put the most evil of villains to shame. It sent a chill into his very soul.
"Leave me alone!" Finn cried out, tried to get to his feet; but something was wrong. He looked down at his hands as pain began to spread through his body.
The fur began to recede, claws shrinking back into small pink nails. His body was changing back. Panic and helplessness brought his attention from the pain as shock set in. His hands moved to his head, feeling as his ears shrunk back to normal.
Gripping handfuls of hair, Finn thought his head was going to burst from the laughter. It began to echo inside his head as well as around him. The pain began to worsen, turning into a burning like there was hellfire itself flowing through his body. He had only felt pain like this once before, but then it had been over quickly. Even though his body was human again, the pain persisted.
"Finn," A soft voice silenced the laughter, dulling the pain enough for him to focus on it. "Finn, what have you done?"
His eyes were drawn upwards, but he couldn't clearly see the figure before him. Despite that, he knew who it was.
"No! No, get away from me! Stay back!" He screamed, forcing his body to move despite the burning. Falling back, there was nothing to stop or catch him. As he fell through the abyss, red eyes watched with contempt.
